MY NOMINATION SPEECH FOR DEC 5TH

The world is burning yet many of our elected representatives can’t seem to find their voice to effect change. Even the Republican Party seems to be sitting it out. This is a problem of party leadership at the national, state, and even the county levels; and that is why I’m entering the race to be your next Weber County Republican Party Chair.

I am a retired serial entrepreneur and I have gained my Party experience by holding many elected positions over the last 12 years, including:

• Precinct Chair
• Precinct Vice Chair
• Legislative District Chair
• Legislative District Vice Chair
• State Delegate
• County Delegate
• Member State Central Committee
• Member County Central Committee
• Member County Executive Committee
• Sub-committee Chair/State Constitution & Bylaw Committee

Let’s be honest with each other...As Republicans, our stated purpose is to nominate and support the election of Republican candidates for public office and promote the principles set forth in our Party Platform.

Did you know, all Republican Candidates seeking the nomination of the Utah Republican Party to run as a Republican for any federal, statewide, state legislative, or state school board office are required to sign a Candidate Certification Form declaring:

“I Have read the Utah Republican Party Platform, Constitution, and Bylaws. I support the Republican Party Platform...and accept it as the standard by which my performance as a candidate and as an office holder should be evaluated.”

We as a Party require this commitment from our candidates, so it is up to us to preserve the Party by following up and holding them accountable...and thank God we have developed the Caucus system to do so. We vet and support real Republicans and expose those who are not. If we do not use the Caucus system effectively...we will lose it and our Party will become irrelevant.

As Precinct Chairs and Vice Chairs you are the stewards of this awesome vehicle to self-government. Your ability to perform your role is extremely important to our success. Let’s work together to keep it.

As your County Chair, my role will be to facilitate your efforts as a deliberative body to conduct the business of the Party. We will conduct all business using Roberts Rules of Order so the will of the majority will prevail but not without respect to the minority. I invite you all to attend my training session on the introduction to Parliamentary Procedures, it will serve you well.

We will build an agenda, work a script for the meeting, offer opportunities to add agenda items, introduce motions from the floor, amend them properly then debate and vote on what becomes our Party policy.

My goal is to support your ability to have a voice in the process...to disagree...to challenge decisions...to openly debate, and then cast your sacred vote on the path forward. With a knowledge of our procedures, you will determine the future of our Party.

I am a long-time conservative...

• Fighting for a better Party by conducting education & training for our elected positions.
• Fighting for a better County by running for County Commission to represent the taxpayer.
• Fighting for a better State by serving on the State Central Committee and promoting platform Republicans.
• Fighting for a better Nation by writing about and promoting conservative principles.

And I will continue the fight with you to keep the voice of our elected neighborhood representative relevant in a signature-gathering world.

With my experience I believe I can bring structure and order to the Party and lead us back to our Platform principles by following our rules and educating the volunteers in our Party about their proper roles and responsibilities.

I will accept my responsibility with a commitment to do my best...I will not let you down.
