PRECINCT CHAIRS - THIS IS WHERE ORGANIZATION WINS ELECTIONS
How to get "Active" Republicans in your Precinct to show up for Caucus?
One of the most effective things a precinct chair can do before caucus is personally contact voters. A quick knock on the door or a simple door hanger reminding people about caucus can dramatically increase turnout.
Today, tools like AI and simple mapping software make it much easier to organize a precinct walking list. If you have your voter roll spreadsheet, you can quickly identify the voters most likely to participate and generate an efficient door-knocking route.
Below are two simple ways to build a walking list from your voter roll.

Below are two simple ways to build a walking list from your voter roll.
Option 1: Use AI to Create an Optimized Walking Route
If you’re not using AI tools yet, now is a great time to start. Using tools like ChatGPT, you can turn a list of addresses into a clean, efficient door-knocking route.
Step 1 — Export Your Voter Roll
Export your precinct voter roll spreadsheet.
Step 2 — Filter Your Target Voters
Use a Pivot Table or spreadsheet filters to identify:
Example from My Precinct
Total voters: 959
Step 3 — Copy the Addresses
Copy the address column and paste it into AI.
Ask something like: “Create an optimized walking route from these addresses.”
AI can generate:
AI will typically recommend:
Example Route Stats
That means one volunteer can cover the route, or two volunteers can split it and finish quickly.
This is a simple way to personally remind voters about caucus by knocking doors or hanging a reminder.

Step 2 — Filter Your Target Voters
Use a Pivot Table or spreadsheet filters to identify:
- Active Republicans
- Active Unaffiliated voters
Example from My Precinct
Total voters: 959
- 433 Active Republicans
- 240 Active Unaffiliated
Step 3 — Copy the Addresses
Copy the address column and paste it into AI.
Ask something like: “Create an optimized walking route from these addresses.”
AI can generate:
- A step-by-step walking route
- The most efficient order of homes
- Total walking distance and time
- A printable walking sheet
- A Google Maps link you can open on your phone
AI will typically recommend:
- Walk each street once from one end to the other
- Remove duplicate addresses
- Create a clean, efficient canvassing path
Example Route Stats
- Distance: ~1.8–2.1 miles
- Doors: ~80–90 homes
- Walking time: ~40 minutes
- Total knocking time: ~1.5–2 hours
That means one volunteer can cover the route, or two volunteers can split it and finish quickly.

Option 2: Automatically Create a Precinct Door-Knocking Map
Another approach is to create a visual map of your precinct using Google My Maps.
Step 1 — Filter Your Voters
From your voter spreadsheet, filter for:
Step 2 — Copy the Addresses
Create a column that contains full addresses, for example:
112 E 1825 N North Ogden UT
136 W 1825 N North Ogden UT
263 E 1825 N Unit 76 North Ogden UT
290 E 1825 N Unit 55 North Ogden UT
Step 3 — Import into Google My Maps
Go to: mymaps.google.com
Then:
Google will automatically:
Step 4 — Divide Routes
Now you can assign volunteers by area:
Step 5 — Generate Walking Routes
Open Google Maps, choose Walking Directions, and add stops.
Google will automatically generate the shortest walking route.
Pro Tip
Use color-coded pins:
🔴 Active Republicans
🔵 Active Unaffiliated
⚪ Already contacted
This allows volunteers to track progress in real time.
Why This Works
Instead of guessing which doors to knock, you focus on the voters most likely to attend caucus if reminded.
A well-organized walking list allows volunteers to:

Precinct organization wins elections...Personal contact works.
If every precinct chair mobilizes even a few volunteers to knock doors or hang reminders, we can dramatically increase caucus participation.
I’ll either be purchasing door hangers with others or printing about 700 myself.
Let’s get to work...CAUCUS IS MARCH 17TH!
Step 1 — Filter Your Voters

136 W 1825 N North Ogden UT
263 E 1825 N Unit 76 North Ogden UT
290 E 1825 N Unit 55 North Ogden UT
Step 3 — Import into Google My Maps
Go to: mymaps.google.com
Then:
- Click Create a New Map
- Click Import
- Upload your spreadsheet or paste the addresses
Google will automatically:
- Place a pin on every house
- Create a visual precinct map
- Allow you to share it with volunteers
Step 4 — Divide Routes
Now you can assign volunteers by area:
- Volunteer 1 → West side streets
- Volunteer 2 → East side streets
- Volunteer 3 → Apartment complexes
Step 5 — Generate Walking Routes
Open Google Maps, choose Walking Directions, and add stops.
Google will automatically generate the shortest walking route.

Why This Works
Instead of guessing which doors to knock, you focus on the voters most likely to attend caucus if reminded.
A well-organized walking list allows volunteers to:
- Cover the precinct faster
- Avoid knocking the same door twice
- Focus only on active voters
- Increase caucus turnout
